Moosing Sarah -- Time for the Dems to Leash the Pitbull
War hero Kerry got swift-boated by men who never served in the military. Is Obama now going to let himself get moosed by a parochial Alaskan know-nothing because she's a woman?

Next time someone asks what you think of Sarah Palin, please don't just call her a "skilled politician" with a "compelling biography." Call her a liar, too. Here's how that would work.
Like many people, I thought of Gary a couple weeks ago when "Dream Weaver" was played as a kind of theme when Joe Biden's son was introduced at the Democratic Convention.
Cut the cool zen smiling -- you're in a fight with people who are wrecking this country -- it's not a policy chat.
She's exactly the kind of leader America needs: the kind that will always put country first -- even if that country happens to be The Republic of Alaska.
Republican luminaries including John McCain's 20-something daughter, Meghan, tried to elude my line of questioning.
We're a magazine that thrives on babies, intriguing women and scandals. For this particular week, our potential vice president just happened to fit the bill. (Sorry, Angelina).
Walking through the Xcel Energy Center, I encountered a group of African-American Republicans, and asked them for their take on the historic nature of Barack Obama's nomination. Check it out:
In a breathtakingly puzzling move, John McCain showed terrible judgment by selecting first term Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate. ...
The mainstream media consensus -- and we know just how wrong the consensus usually is -- is that Palin's speech has consolidated and galvanized the conservative base.
The Palin nomination is not about external realities and what Democrats call "issues," but about the symbolic mechanisms of the political mind -- the worldviews, frames, metaphors, cultural narratives, and stereotypes.
Now that you have nominated a real life black person and proved you are not racist...
Do you think the Republicans would lay off of Obama if his 17 year-old daughter had gotten pregnant out of wedlock? You know the answer to that question. Everyone does.
If you're a Democrat and you make a VP pick without fully vetting the individual you're "reckless." A Republican who doesn't fully vet is a "maverick."
How dare the Republicans look down their noses at Obama and thousands of other organizers who put community, and yes, country first by trying to make life a little bit better for other people.
Deja vu all over again. Sarah Palin/Harriet Miers. The names are interchangeable. And just like Bush did in replacing Miers, McCain will quickly replace her with someone who'll really get conservatives excited.

"By contrast to the Democratic sunshine, the Republican party is night."
Correction:
By contrast to the Democratic sunshine, the Republican party is A DARK, DANK PRISON CELL.
btw, did you know McCain was a POW???
I was a registered Republican for (32) years...and then this year I re-registered as a Democrat. I called myself a Liberal Republican...like Gov. Arnold of CA... and I still voted for Clinton, Gore and Kerry. I had HOPE that one day...the Republican Party would again nominate someone worthy of the party name.
Then this year...I was put-a-fork-in-it-done with the Republican Party. I became a Democrat.
John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as his V.P. side-kick has just shown me I made the right choice. it just demonstrates how far Right-to the-Right the Republican party has gotten. Richter-scale off the charts to the Right.
Your article presents in a sound and elequant way my views as well as to the Democrats, beliefs that were ingraned in my memory since the early 1960's. To me the Democrats were and still far more aligned with the working and middle class on real issues not the phony ones and the power grabbing of Republicans.
WE NEED HILLARY CLINTON NOW!!!! All the polls are shifting some by 10 points! Obama, should ask to Hillary's running mate as a co-presidential ticket with Joe Bidden as an advisor or driver!
Thanks Oliver, you always make me feel better! Keep up the good work.
